Saginaw Valley State University offers a 2+2 degree program for international students that culminates in a bachelor’s degree from SVSU. After completion of a U.S. equivalent of an associate’s degree in their home country, international students will enter into a 2+2 agreement with SVSU to complete their last two years of study. Upon successful completion of this program, students will receive a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Teaching for International Students or Middle and Secondary Teaching for International Students.  Students of this program will not receive teacher certification from the Michigan Department of Education.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 or above and a minimum score of 61 on the TOEFL-IBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or a minimum score of 5.5 or above on the IELTS.

Applicants must submit the follow documents:

  1. Completed application for admission
  2. Official transcripts (an equivalent of an Associate’s Degree must be completed)
  3. TOEFL-IBT or IELTS score results sent to SVSU directly from the testing center.
  4. Evidence of financial support.
  5. Copy of passport.

When the application is approved, an I-20 certificate will be mailed. Prospective students should not make plans to leave their country before receiving this certificate and obtaining a student visa from a U.S. consular office. Tuition and fees for international students are the same as for U.S. students claiming residency in a state other than Michigan.

For information on how to apply, contact the Office of Graduate and International Admissions, 230 Wickes Hall, at (989) 964-6096 (phone), (989) 964-2788 (fax), or gradadm@svsu.edu (email).
