Geography Minor—General

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Programs by Department

The General Minor in Geography is designed to give students a foundational background in Geography, and allow them to focus the Geography course work in such a way that complements their chosen major. Through courses, students will understand and be able to apply a geographical perspective to earth’s physical and human systems. The three core courses prepare students for upper division courses they choose. Geography 460 provides students with a history of the discipline, practice in research methods, and career development opportunities. A techniques course will introduce students to Geographic Information Systems or Remote Sensing, which are an important component of most modern geographical study. The General Minor requires 21 credits in Geography as outlined below:

Regional and Topical Studies (6 cr)

Six credits in Geography courses at the 300-400 level excluding any courses taken to satisfy the core (GEOG 460) or techniques requirements (GEOG 340 or GEOG 341). Students may take both GEOG 340 and 341, but only one will count under Regional and Topical Studies.
