The Certificate in Geographic Information Systems is designed to complement a student’s primary field of study. Consequently, coursework will ensure that certificate candidates not only develop advanced skills in the application of GIS and RS to their specific field of study, but also develop the specific GIS and RS skills that employers currently seek. Such skills include the following: creation of spatial data including quality control, digital storage and maintinence of spatial data, visualization of spatial data, analysis of spatial data, and the production of maps from spatial data. Students will also complete an approved internship or faculty directed project that requires them to demonstrate their ability to translate classroom learning and applied research into professional practice.
