French Major for Teacher Certification (B.A.)

The French major prepares students to teach grades PK-12. It requires completion of the 30-credit hour major described below, completion of a minor in an approved department, and completion of professional development courses in Modern Foreign Languages and in the College of Education.
It is strongly recommended that a minimum of 6 credit hours be taken abroad in a country where the language of study is spoken. These 6 credit hours can be taken to fulfill required or elective courses in the major with instructor approval.
All foreign language majors or minors who are candidates for teacher certification must also pass the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) with a minimum rating of Advanced Low.

Additional Electives
Additional credits in FREN courses numbered 300 or greater to total a minimum of 30 credits.
Required Courses for Certification
In addition to 30 credits in French, students must complete College of Education coursework and the following Language Methods requirements.
