The Bachelor of General Studies degree is designed for students who wish to complete a bachelor’s degree, but whose academic or career needs do not mandate a regular baccalaureate degree program.
Each Bachelor of General Studies degree must meet the following standards:
- The program must include two minors that are part of the curriculum at SVSU. Students entering SVSU with an Associate degree may complete the General Studies degree with one minor rather than two. At least half of the credits of the minor(s) must be taken at SVSU.
- The degree program must include all Basic Skills and General Education requirements.
- The degree program must include 42 credits of upper-division course work.
- The degree program must include at least 31 SVSU credits at SVSU.
- The maximum number of credits transferable from a community college or two-year degree program is 62 credits. The maximum number of credits transferable from a four-year college is 93 credits. The maximum number of transfer credits allowed toward the degree, no matter from what source, is 93 credits.
- The diploma and transcript will not show a major, but will show Bachelor of General Studies. The title of the minor(s) will be recorded on the transcript.
