Exercise Promotion Minor (18 Cr.)

The purpose of this minor is to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to improve personal and community fitness through exercise.

Students will expand their knowledge of exercise guidelines, exercise programming, and community engagement through a group of core courses [15 cr.]. Additionally, students will complete classes that emphasize activity and movement through the elective block [3 cr.]. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) stated, in conjunction with the American Medical Association, Surgeon General’s Reports, American Heart Association, and Center for Disease Control and Prevention that, “…physical activity is one of the most important things Americans can do to improve their health.” This minor will provide a foundation for a lifetime of exercise and activity, and the skills to encourage exercise in the community.

This minor is closed to KINE majors.

Core. Foundational Concepts of Health and Exercise (15 cr)


The purpose of these courses is to promote understanding of exercise guidelines and implementation, at a personal and community level. There are fifteen [15] credits in the core curriculum.

Electives. Health and Skill Related Exercise (3 Cr)


The purpose of these elective courses is to promote the development of exercise as a lifelong habit through health and skill related exercise. 

Students are required to take at least:

One [1] credit of KINE 110A- Selected Topics in Health Related Fitness and 

One [1] credit of KINE 110B- Selected Topics in Skill Related Fitness.

Students may select one [1] additional course from any of the listed 100 level Health and Skill Related Fitness courses for their third credit.
