ADN to BSN Concurrent Program Students
The ADN to BSN Concurrent Program student is one who is enrolled in Associate Degree nursing courses at a partnership community college while taking SVSU RN to BSN courses concurrently. Students will complete their Associates Degree in Nursing while earning BSN credits, allowing them to complete their BSN from SVSU in additional semesters.
Degree Requirements
To complete the degree requirements, an ADN to BSN student must:
- earn a minimum of 16 credits of core nursing courses and 9 credits of approved upper division elective courses.
- 124 credits are required for graduation, of which 31 must be from SVSU and include:
- 39 credits awarded based on articulation criteria, transfer credits, and General Education credits
- an approved statistics course
- 9 approved upper division elective
- 16 credits of core NURS credits
Basic skills credits do not count towards the 124 credits for graduation.
Admission Process
Eligibility criteria for application to the program include:
Admission to SVSU
Admission and good standing in a partnership Associate Degree Nursing program which includes required Anatomy and Physiology
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 from all colleges and universities attended
Completion of the following SVSU General Education Requirements:
- Category 3 (Numerical understanding)
- Category 6 (Social Science Methods)
- Category 7 (Social Institutions)
- Category 9 (Oral Communication)
- Category 10 (Written Communication)
Required SVSU Core Nursing Courses (16 cr)
One statistics course from the following or an approved course:
(meets the General Education Category 3 requirement)
Additional Requirements
- Validated Articulation credits will be awarded for the Associates Degree nursing course work, based upon the articulation agreement, after the Associates Degree in Nursing has been earned and RN license in Michigan obtained (39 cr)
- General Education credits (earned at SVSU or Prior institution) (variable cr)
- Any additional transfer credits (up to 62 credits )
- SVSU Communication Intensive (CI!) course requirements must be met (two courses)
- The 31 credit SVSU residency credit requirement must be met
Elective Courses
Students may choose 9 credits of approved upper-division elective courses appropriate for professional development and continuing education or from a select list of graduate nursing courses. Up to 9 credits of graduate nursing credits may be taken after the ADN degree has been conferred and applied to both the ADN to BSN program elective credit requirements and nursing graduate program requirements, if the student is admitted to a graduate nursing program and obtains a grade of B (3. 0 GPA) in the course(s).
