Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages: Minor

This minor is designed for any SVSU student wishing to teach English to speakers of other languages, especially outside the United States or in adult education settings in the US, and whose career needs do not mandate teaching certification.

This 21-credit program includes 18 credits of courses and a three-credit practicum. Candidates for the TESOL minor must fulfill an additional language requirement and a GPA requirement as described below.

Language requirement: Candidates for this minor must fulfill a second/additional language requirement. This can be fulfilled by two semesters of college study in a single language other than English or by demonstrating literacy and fluency in this language. Candidates for whom English is an additional language will meet the English language proficiency requirement through successful completion of this program.

Grade point requirement: Candidates must maintain a minimum “B” (3.0) grade point average in all TESOL Core Courses.
