Early Childhood Education (B.A.)

This major provides preparation for students interested in a career in the field of early childhood and child development without teacher certification. The Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood degree is designed to meet the needs of students with one or more of the following career goals:

• Lead Teacher in Great Start Readiness Program, Head Start and Early Head Start program
• Childcare Director or Head Start/Early Head Start Early Childhood Coordinator
• Service provider for community agencies such as Early On, Child Abuse and Neglect Council, Department of Human Services, Children’s Museums, etc

Additionally, the Bachelor’s of Arts in Early Childhood is appropriate for:

• Candidates interested in early childhood professional graduate programs.
• Students who are graduates of associate degree early childhood/child development programs.

Core courses and electives provide a sound foundation in early childhood education, with additional electives providing an opportunity to meet individualized learning needs based on career goals.

A minor is required.

Admission Requirements

Candidates will be selected for admission into the Early Childhood Bachelor’s Program on the basis of the following criteria: 

• 60 credits with a GPA of 2.75,
• completion of TE 120, TE 211, TE 280 and TE 281 [add new permalinks] with “B-” or better.
• verification of a criminal background check, and
• validation of the Department of Human Services clearance.
