Social Studies Major for Teacher Certification, grades 6 -12


A Social Studies major is available for those students who plan to teach history, economics, geography, and/or civics or government at the secondary level. It requires completion of the 56 hour major described below, and completion of professional development courses described in the Secondary Teaching Certification catalog entry.

A minor is not required.

The Social Studies major is available to students desiring to teach at the middle (grades 5 to 9) or high school level (grades 7 to 12). It requires a double major with one of the education majors described in the College of Education section.

Admission to the major does not constitute admission to the College of Education.
