RN to BSN Students
The RN to BSN student is one who has graduated from a state approved school of nursing and holds a current unencumbered RN license to practice in the state of Michigan.
Degree Requirements
To complete the degree requirements, an RN student must earn a minimum of 15 credits of core nursing courses (NURS) and 9 credits from approved upper division elective courses; 124 credits are required for graduation, of which 31 must be from SVSU. The 124 credits include: the 15 core NURS credits, 9 approved upper division elective credits, an approved statistics course, 32 credits awarded based on articulation criteria, transfer credits, and General Education credits. Basic skill credits do not count towards the 124 credits for graduation.
Admission Process for RN to BSN Students
Minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the program include:
- Current unencumbered Michigan RN license.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50.
- An approved plan of study, which includes student’s goals and individualized plan for program completion.
Transfer credits are considered in this process.
Nursing Core Courses (15 cr)
Additional Required Course (4 cr)
One statistics course from the following: Required Elective Courses (9 cr)
Students may choose from a list of approved upper division elective courses appropriate for professional development and continuing education, and/or from a list of selected graduate nursing courses. Up to nine credits of graduate nursing coursework may be taken and used for credit in both the RN to BSN program and the graduate nursing degree, as long as the student is subsequently admitted to a graduate nursing program and obtains a grade of B (GPA 3.0 or better) in those classes. The list of upper division elective courses can be obtained from the RN to BSN coordinator.
