Degree Requirements (33 cr)

The Master of Science in Health Administration and Leadership provides interdisciplinary preparation for students pursuing a career in administration and leadership of health or human services organizations. The program includes theoretical and experiential learning opportunities. Core courses provide a sound foundation in health and organizational management and leadership.

Objectives

Graduates of this program will acquire knowledge and skill in:

  1. Improvements implemented to transform health and human services systems at the macro and microsystem levels
  2. Value of health information technology to the healthcare organization
  3. Art and science of management and leadership of health or human services organizations
  4. Community development for organizational and system health
  5. Organizational process improvement and project planning
  6. Ethical, legal, and regulatory aspects of leadership practice in health and human services
  7. Population health, community health needs assessment and community benefit
  8. Managerial finance and healthcare reimbursement
Admission Requirements

1. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a cumulative GPA of 3.00.

2. A completed graduate application, including:
    a. Official copies of undergraduate and graduate transcripts.
    b. At least 3 credits of undergraduate statistics or research.
    c. Resume which includes education, employment, scholarship, and service.
    d. One or two page statement of academic and career goals.
    e. Two letters of reference, preferably from educators or employers.

3. International students must complete the international application for student admission, including all items listed above
as well as:
    a. A score of 580 or better on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for applicants whose native
        language is not English, or a grade of “B” or better for at least one year of English composition or its equivalent in an accredited U.S. college or university.
    b. Evidence of financial support.

Admission Regulations

In required HS and LS courses, students must earn a grade of “B” or better to remain in good standing. The minimum credits that must be completed at SVSU within the MSHAL program curriculum is 24.
