Middle School Classroom Teaching - Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)

Foundations (9 credits; must be taken with first 15 credits)
Middle School Core (15 - 18 credits; choose one course from each area.)
1. Reading
(6 credits required; this requirement may be satisfied by previous reading course work taken at either the undergraduate or graduate level. See the Certification Officer for advisement.) 2. Instructional Technology (3 credits)
3. Special Needs/Multicultural (3 credits)
4. Assessment (3 credits)
5. Middle Level Instruction (3 credits)
Capstone (3 credits; Prerequisite–TEMS 570 and must be taken within the last 6 credits of the program.)
Middle Level Endorsement
Teachers with an elementary level certificate and subject area endorsements for grades 6-8 have the option to earn a Middle Level endorsement which will extend their subject area endorsements to grade 9. Teachers with a secondary level certificate will extend their subject area certification to grades 5 and 6. Additional course work may be required to ensure the student has at least two certifiable minors appropriate to middle/junior high school classrooms. Interested candidates must schedule an appointment with a certification advisor in the College of Education to review course work and state testing requirements for the endorsement and discuss how this program will develop into the Master of Arts in Teaching degree. |
