Special Education - Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.)

Required Foundation Courses (6 credits)


These courses must be taken within the first 15 graduate credit hours of course work undertaken from this university.

Capstone (7 credits required, TE 621 or 660 taken as final course)

Special Education Endorsements


Certified teachers (elementary or secondary) may receive an endorsement to teach in Special Education programs requiring approval in either Cognitive Impairments, Learning Disabilities, Emotional Impairments or Autism Spectrum Disorder by completing the required courses within the endorsement programs listed below. Michigan Special Education Administrative Rules require teachers to complete a minimum of 30 credits and 10 weeks of student teaching for initial special education endorsements and 30 credits (half of which must be unduplicated credits) with 180 hours of practical experience for each additional endorsement. For additional information, students should schedule an appointment with a certification advisor in the College of Education.
