An English major is available to students desiring to teach at the secondary level. It requires completion of the 48-hour major described below, completion of a 20-hour minor in an approved department and completion of professional development courses described in the College of Education section.

Foundation (3 credits required)
ENGL 201 is a prerequisite for all 300-400 level literature courses. British Literature (6 credits required)
American Literature (6 credits required)
Shakespeare (3 credits required)
World Literature (3 credits required)
- Other world literature course with approval of English Department
Young Adult Literature (3 credits required)
Language and Writing (9 credits required)
Language (6 credits required, ENGL 355 or ENGL 370 highly recommended)
Writing (3 credits required)
Pedagogy (6 credits required)
Electives (9 credits required)
Either one 3-credit course listed below, or an elective in language or writing:
