Graduate, Teacher Certification, Endorsement and Approval Programs in Education
Graduate Programs in Education
The graduate program of the College of Education offers the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree (36-38 credits), the Master of Arts in Technology Learning Systems & Design (33 credits), the Master of Education (M.Ed) degree (33 credits) in principalship, and the Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree (30 credits). A function of the graduate program is to develop teacher leaders and administrators by providing opportunities for academic preparation and professional renewal. The M.A.T. offers teachers the opportunity to increase their competence in various subject area specializations. The M.A. is designed for experienced learning specialists and educators who are interested in enhancing their professional practice through the study and application of online knowledge related to teaching, learning, and leadership via distance education technologies. The M.Ed. program provides a theoretical background and practical experiences in school leadership with the major emphasis on educational administration and supervision. The Ed.S. program provides a planned program of graduate skills beyond the master’s degree. It is designed to enhance the academic knowledge and skills of educational leaders.
Endorsement, Certificate, and Approval Programs
The SVSU College of Education offers other opportunities for certified teachers to obtain additional endorsements in Early Childhood Education, Reading Specialist, special education endorsements in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cognitive Impairments and Learning Diabilities,special education administration approval programs for Director of Special Education and Supervisor of Special Education, as well as subject area endorsements. Course work is also available for certified teachers who prefer not to enter a master’s or endorsement program but need to fulfill requirements for certificate renewal and/or advanced certification. Interested students should contact the College of Education Admissions and Certification Office to schedule an appointment with a certification advisor.
