ME 450 - Materials Selection and Specification

Credits: 3

Over 100,000 engineering materials are available for new product designs.  This course teaches a systematic approach for screening candidate materials using quantitative ratios of material properties.  The final subset of materials that optimize the design efficiency is evaluated using more detailed factors such as manufacturing process compatibility, supply base, cost, and environmental impact.  The methods are illustrated with many real world examples.

Requisites: ME 250  (previous, required) and ME 251  (previous, required) and ME 380  (previous, required)

Session Cycle: Winter Only Yearly Cycle: Every Year
