TE 367 - Math Assessment & Instruction for 3-6 Develop mathematics-specific teaching practices that support all children’s access to, engagement in, and success in thinking and reasoning with rational numbers. This course will address strategic tasks of mathematics teaching to develop children’s procedural fluency with operations using rational numbers, and proportional reasoning. Design and implement instruction to engage children in using mathematics to explore and understand social justice contexts through real-world connections using geometric measurement, probability, statistics, and data analysis. Evaluate instructional resources, children’s literature, physical and digital tools for supporting all children’s access to and success in mathematical learning. Engage in reflective practice for improving teaching practices. Fieldwork required (online, remote, and/or in-person). Co-requisite: TE 359 Field Practicum in Grades 5-6
Requisites: Admission to Upper Elementary (3-6) Education, or admission to 5-9 Math Teacher Certification (Required, Previous) TE 359 Field Practicum in Grades 5-6 or TEMS 434 Leadership in Teaching (Required, Concurrent).
