TE 347 - Mthds Tching Social Studies Grades 3-6 An introduction to methods and materials for a developmentally appropriate issues-based approach to the teaching of social studies in grades 3-6. Emphasis will be on methods for engaging children in developing understanding of the major concepts and application of the modes of inquiry through the integrated study of history, geography, political science (civics and government), and economics. This course is designed to support candidates in promoting all children’s abilities to make informed decisions as engaged citizens to enact change in a culturally diverse, democratic society and interdependent world. Fieldwork is required. Co-requisite: TE 349 Field Practicum in Grades 3-4 or TE 359 Field Practicum in Grades 5-6.
Requisites: Admission to Upper Elementary (3-6) Education (Required, Previous). TE 349 Field Practicum in Grades 3-4 or TE 359 Field Practicum in Grades 5-6 (Required, Concurrent).
