TE 345 - Methods of Teaching Social Studies PK-3 An introduction to methods and materials for a developmentally appropriate issues-based approach to the teaching of social studies in preschool through Grade 3. Emphasis is on ways to develop children’s understanding of making informed decisions for the public good as members of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world. This course is designed to provide insight into the selection of age-appropriate content and teaching methods that support skills and attitudes relevant for PK-3. Methods for engaging children in learning about civic participation while simultaneously being involved in the civic life of their communities is addressed. Fieldwork is required. Co-requisite: TE 319 Field Practicum in PK-K or TE 329 Field Practicum in K-1 or TE 339 Field Practicum in Grades 2-3
Requisites: Admission to Lower Elementary (PK-3) Education (Required, Previous). TE 319 Field Practicum in PK-K or TE 329 Field Practicum in K-1 or TE 339 Field Practicum in Grades 2-3 (Required, Concurrent).
