SOC 304 - Evolution of Human Societies Examines theories and the underlying social dynamics driving the evolution across human history of the main types of human societies from band-type societies, to tribes, chiefdoms, and agrarian states. Examines the evolution of the modern capitalist system/society and its unique logics, from the era of its emergence in Europe to its planet-wide conquest and disolution of other types of societies. Compares the socio-economic and environmental theories and logics accounting for the evolution from one type to the next in certain areas of the planet, and examines the very long-term trend of growing social inequality by wealth, power, prestige, gender, and ethnicity.
Requisites: SOC 111, SOC 112, or SOC 280; or instructor permission (Required, Previous).
