PS 389 - Modern Political Thought The study of political order, property, and the state in modern western civilization. The works of such thinkers as Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Mill, Smith, Montesquieu, Rousseau, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Heidegger, Weber, Strauss, and Voegelin will be studied in order to understand the advantages and vulnerabilities that the modern political project offers to the questions of order, virtue, and the good life.
