MLS 340 - Clinical Microbiology I First part of a two semester Clinical Microbiology sequence. A comprehensive study of clinically important microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites) and their role in human disease. Includes the epidemiology and effect on the human host: utilization of biochemical, morphological and serologic characteristics for the isolation and identification of these organisms; includes some life cycles, mode of transmission, identification techniques and the clinical effect of the human host along with an overview of the treatment. Various culture techniques emphasized include microscopy, cultivation, identification antimicrobial susceptibility testing and quality control methods. (2-3)
Requisites: Admission to Medical Laboratory Science program (Required, Previous).
