Financial Assistance

^TOP

Financial assistance programs available to SVSU graduate students include:

Graduate Payment Plan
The SVSU Graduate Payment Plan (GPP) allows you to spread your educational expenses over two, interest-free payments. You can use the payment plan in combination with financial aid or a student loan to help pay your expenses. An application is required.

Tuition Reimbursement
Many companies reimburse employees for graduate level course work. Students should check with their employer’s Human Resource Department for further information on the availability of this benefit.

Private Graduate Scholarships
A limited number of private scholarships are available to qualified full and part-time graduate students. Selection criteria differ for each scholarship. Students are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) early as the scholarships are competitive.

President’s International Graduate Student Scholarship
The President’s International Graduate Student Scholarship is a competitive award and provides partial tuition scholarships over two years to a number of international graduate students who demonstrate a background of academic excellence and professional experience (and/or civic engagement). Applications which include scholarship criteria are available through the Office of Graduate Admissions website by following this link.

Federal Family Education Loan Program
Graduate students enrolled at half time (five credits) may borrow up to the cost of attendance at SVSU through the Federal Family Education Loan Program. This program consists of two types of loans - subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford Loans. To be eligible for a subsidized Stafford Loan, students first must establish their financial need. Students who qualify for an unsubsidized load may borrow up to $8,500. The interest on this type of loan is paid by the federal government while the student is attending school. Students who do not demonstrate financial need may borrow through the unsubsidized Stafford Loan program. The interest on an unsubsidized loan is the responsibility of the student, and may be paid while in school, or may be added to the loan principle. To apply for either Stafford Loan, students must complete the Free Applications for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

For additional information on financial aid assistance, please contact the Scholarships and Financial Aid Office at (989) 964-4103, (800) 968-9500 or financial-aid@svsu.edu.
