Theatre Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)


The Theatre Program seeks to provide opportunities for individuals to develop their creative talents through study and application in theatrical environments. These skills include the following: 

1. Acting, alone through monologues and with others in various scenes and full-length dramatic literature of various genres. 

2. Theatrical design methods in scenic design, lights design, sound design and costume design. Alone and with other designers/directors in various scenes and full-length dramatic literature of various genres. 

3. Improvisation. 

4. Directing scenes/productions with specific guidelines. 

5. Theatrical criticism, both formally and informally. 

6. Reading, script analysis, and describing main characters, relationships and themes. 

7. Evaluating theatrical performances and theatrical design work. 

8. Understanding relationships between theatre, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts. 

9. Understanding theatre in relation to history and culture. 

10. To prepare students to enter graduate degree programs in various fields of theatrical. 

Theatre Minor: 

1. Integrate theatrical skills to enrich their major. 

 

Theatre Education Major: 

1. To develop in students the skills and knowledge to function in theatrical environments. See the list above. 

2. To prepare students to enter graduate degree programs in various fields of theatrical study, including writing, directing, design, dramaturgy and (acting) performance. 

3. To prepare graduates to be able to function effectively as theatre educators in grades K- 12. This includes, but is not limited to, the ability to teach to all the national standards for K-12 theatre education. 

 

Musical Theatre Minor: 

1. Integrate vocal, acting, and dancing skills together to enrich their theatre or music major.
