CULTURE characterizes the nature of the cultural system, its mechanisms of replication, and
its utility and impact on individuals
SOCIAL SELF details the relationship of self and society and how the self is socially constructed
and maintained at multiple social scales
STRATIFICATION identifies how social structures create and reproduce different forms of social
inequality in human society through specific processes
CHANGE outlines how social structures reproduce themselves across generations and
additionally how social change occurs in cultural, social, political, and economic
