Geography Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)


1. To be conversant with the synergism and interactions between Physical Geography (aspects of the physical Earth such as geomorphology, climatology, meteorology, biogeography, paleoecology) and Human Geography (aspects of human societies such as culture, populations, planning, regions, and historical, political, economic, urban, and medical geography). 

 

2. To make connections between Geography and its cognate disciplines (e.g. History, Political Science, Anthropology, Economics, Sociology, Geology, Archaeology, Biology, Forestry, Computer Science and Physics). 

 

3. To appreciate the world as a diverse mix of complex social and cultural systems.

 

4. To acquire, interpret, critique, and apply geographic literature and other geographic data (e.g., Census, satellite imagery, etc.) on a wide range of geographic topics from a variety of sources, including using this literature and data to design and conduct research. 

 

5. To explain conceptually and apply at least one set of Geospatial Techniques (Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing), including understanding the strengths and shortcomings of their application.
