Business Chemistry Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)


1) Students should develop a strong foundation in the theory and application of chemistry. Students should show content mastery across the chemical disciplines, which include organic, analytical, physical, biochemistry, and inorganic chemistry and appropriate electives. 
 
2) Students should demonstrate proficiency in essential laboratory techniques across all major chemical disciplines including basic and advanced laboratory skills, record keeping, and laboratory safety via collaborative and independent work. 
 
3) Students should demonstrate proficient use of technology and instrumentation in procurement of scientific information including data analysis, literature searching, database use, and molecular modeling. Students should have hands-on experience using instruments including IR spectrometers, NMR spectrometers, LC-MS spectrometers, UV-Vis spectrometers, and other similar instruments used for spectral analysis, and be able to analyze a spectrum obtained on these instruments.
  
4) Students should exhibit effective written and oral communication skills through written reports, presentations, interpretation of primary literature, and integration of text and graphics. Students will always uphold the ethical standards of the university and the profession.

5) Students should use critical thinking skills and strategies for problem-solving within the discipline.
