A First Time in College student applying for admission to a degree program is required to submit the following:
- An application for admission.
- An official high school transcript or copy of General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Students currently enrolled in high school should send a transcript at the time application is made. Final senior grades must be submitted by the high school as soon as possible after graduation. Final admission is dependent upon a review of the final high school transcript or diploma with posted graduation date.
Submission of ACT or SAT scores is optional for admission but may be required for direct admission into professional programs and may be used for placement purposes.
First Time in College (Under 22 years of age): Any student who has not enrolled in a post-secondary institution following high school graduation or successful completion of the GED.
An application for admission may be made any time after completion of the junior year of high school. Students with a minimum six- or seven-semester high school grade point average of 2.75 are provisionally admissible. Those with a minimum seven-semester grade point average of 2.0-2.74 are evaluated based on academic and non-academic factors.
First Time in College (22 years of age and over): Any student who has not enrolled in a post-secondary institution following high school graduation or successful completion of the General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
An application for admission may be made any time after graduation from high school, or successful completion of the GED. Students who have graduated from high school with a minimum grade point average of 2.75 are admissible. Students must submit proof of high school graduation with a high school diploma, GED or DD214. Those who have not satisfied the minimum grade point average for admission will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are evaluated based on academic and non-academic factors.
High School Dual Enrollment: Any student intending to take a college course while concurrently enrolled in high school.
High school students wishing to enroll in one or more SVSU courses must have a minimum 2.50 cumulative grade point average and submit the following:
- An application for admission.
- An official high school transcript.
- A dual enrollment form indicating whether the school or parent will be responsible for payment. Check with your high school counseling department for details.
College credits earned by high school students will be evaluated by the SVSU Registrar’s Office and may be applied toward a degree program at SVSU once the student graduates and is admitted as a degree-seeking student.
