Cardinal Business Edge

Cardinal Business Edge (CBE) is a selective two-year leadership development program directed toward incoming freshman.  The CBE program has three central elements:

1.   Foundational academic content - Students gain an understanding of business leadership and receive an opportunity to develop their leadership skills by engaging in experiences associated with business systems in functional and interdisciplinary settings.

2.   High levels of mentoring - Students receive high levels of academic and career mentoring including interaction with faculty, administrators and members of the business community.

3.   Related co-curricular activities - Students participate in discussion sessions, interviews and shadowing experiences with community business leaders and entrepreneurs.  This will include selected off-site visits to regional businesses.

The program is comprised of three one-credit courses, taken in the student’s first three semesters on campus.

Program Oversight

Oversight of the Cardinal Business Edge program is conducted by a committee composed of the Department Chairs, the Dean, and a Program Coordinator selected by the Chairs and Dean.  The Program Coordinator may be a faculty member or administrator in the College of Business and Management.  The program coordinator is a non-voting member of the committee, unless one of the Department Chairs serves as program coordinator.  The program coordinator is responsible for coordinating the program, working with the department chairs to schedule courses, advising students admitted to the program and overseeing co-curricular activities required by the program.

Admission Process

The College of Business and Management recruits students in their senior year of high school who display strong academic potential, have some prior leadership experience, and have indicated an interest in majoring in business. Working with the Division of Enrollment Management, the College invites students with a GPA of 3.2 and ACT of at least 24 to apply for admission to the CBE program.  Students complete an application package that includes a brief application essay. A task force commissioned by the CBE oversight committee reviews applications and invites selected candidates to complete an interview. To encourage early commitments to the College of Business and Management, a rolling admissions process is used.
