Visual Arts Education (B.A.)


The Visual Arts Education major is designed for students who desire to teach visual arts in the public schools. No minor is required. Sixty-three (63) credits are required for the major and 27 credits for Teacher Certification: total of 90 credits. This major introduces a student to the basic fundamental knowledge of different mediums in visual Arts and Art history, and then to concentrate on one meduim of the student’s choice. Students will also apply the skills and information learned in studio/history courses to teaching by enrolling in the art methods and field study courses. Specific requirements for certification are listed below in the section entitled “Certification Requirements.”

Art History (12 credits required)


Advanced Studio (9 credits required)


Courses must come from one area of concentration listed below. ART 496 must be in the field of concentration to count as advanced studio credit.

Certification Requirements


Students must apply and be accepted to the College of Education.
